French Arm Chairs

I found these chairs on Craigslist for $40.
But they were a little plain for my taste.

The blond, white washed wood looked dated.

Although I think white upholstered furniture is stunning, I am a realist and realize it wouldn't last a week in my house.
The chairs were in excellent condition, the foam and fabric were fine.
In fact, they are even more comfortable than they look.

I took off the trim and painted them.
(Yes, with the fabric on.......)

The fabric was $2 yard from a local place going out of business. I stapled it on, and glued trim around the edges ($0.60 from the same place).

This is by no means a tutorial, just a fun weekend before and after.
I plan on recovering the chair in my studio soon, and posting a step by step detailed tutorial.

Go check out Between Naps on the Porch for more fun!

Thanks for visiting craft i am and admiring my projects so far. I had the best time scrolling through your blog and seeing all your fabulous projects. You really inspire me! The tissue holders are so easy to make. If you do make a bunch use a template to cut out your fabric scraps it will make it go much faster. Blessings, Jennifer
You're speaking my language with the French style chairs. Love what you did and you're so gutsy to paint with the fabric on. You're a girl who's not scared of commitment!

What an amazing transformation!!! What city are you getting all that neat stuff on Craigslist from? Here in Seattle I never find cool stuff - or maybe I just need a few lessons on how to make it WORK!! :)

BTW - where are your window coverings from? They are to die for gorgeous!!!
Wonderful project! I recovered my breakfast room chairs years ago, and I was actually surprised at how simple it was. Sometimes you just have to get started ... getting started is the hardest part!

Beautiful! I think I saw that same CL ad, but by the time I made up my mind it had been removed. If those are the same ones, I glad they went to very capable hands.
